BP is an oil and gas company that supplies energy products and services worldwide. The company as signed a deal with a group of oil comp! anies to pump gas via a pipeline from a field in Azerbaijan to Italy. The stock has not made significant progress in recent years and is currently pulling back. Over the last four quarters, earnings have been decreasing while revenues have been mixed, which has left investors with mixed feelings about recent earnings announcements. Relative to its weak peers and sector, BP has been an average year-to-date performer. WAIT AND SEE what BP does this quarter.

BP is an oil and gas company that supplies energy products and services worldwide. The companyis reportedly in discussions to turn over control of a major oil and natural gas project in Libya, and is apparently negotiating a deal with Libyas state-owned National Oil Co. The stock has not made significant progress in recent years, however, its currently trading near highs for the year. Over the last four quarters, earnings have been rising while revenues have been mixed, which has left investors mostly pleased about recent earnings announcements. Relative to its weak peers and sector, BP has been a relative year-to-date performer. Look for BP to OUTPERFORM.

LONDON -- I'm shopping for shares right now, should I popBP (LSE: BP  ) (NYSE: BP  ) into my basket?

    Deep trouble
When I looked at buying BP six months ago, I concluded that it offered investors a tank load of uncertainty. The Deepwater oil spill was still lining lawyers' pockets with black gold, gas and oil prices were down, production was falling, and its shale gas assets looked overvalued. Given all its problems, I naturally concluded that investors should roll out the barrel for BP, and buy it. Was I right to recommend buying BP at 拢4.37 last October, and would I buy it today?

Some companies spent a lot more than others, and o! ne compan! y -- BP (NYSE: BP  ) -- was peculiarly absent from the event. Also, Tyler explains why Statoil (NYSE: STO  ) and its joint venture partner Samson Oil & Gas were willing to fork over almost $82 million for one block in the Walker Ridge section of the Gulf.
